I began my training with Kurt, the Korean-Canadian fellow I’ll be replacing once my Visa is squared away. Each class was a unique experience, as was to be expected. One of my favorite moments was when Christina, a spunky 12-year-old, proclaimed to Kurt: “But TEACHER, your hair is black, your eyes are brown… you look KOREAN! And her skin is very, very white; and her eyes are very, very blue!” And yes, she said very, VERY white.
The real shock came when I walked around and showed the students the “polka dots” all over my white skin on my arms – all of them pulled up their sleeves and began inspecting their own limbs. Priceless.
